Bruce Springsteen and Trump – Why the right hates Springsteen

Bruce Springsteen spent much of the Trump presidency speaking out against his leadership. From attacking Trump’s response to the BLM protests to calling Trump’s presidency a ‘nightmare’, Bruce Springsteen never shied away from expressing his political thoughts.

I believe that our current president is a threat to our democracy. He simply makes any kind of reform that much harder

Springsteen has very clearly positioned himself on the left side of American politics. For example, he has always been front and centre in his support for liberal social causes like gender equality and gay marriage. His music also speaks to more left-wing beliefs. Take the song Born in the USA, which appear like a nationalistic and patriotic anthem. However, the song’s underlying message is about the adverse effects of the Vietnam War and is opposed to the patriotic or nationalistic right-wing view of the US.

He has also been enthusiastic in providing his unwavering support for the Biden campaign. He is probably one of the most significant celebrities who has actively supported Joe Biden. One of his songs was also featured prominently at the DNC in support of Biden, along with a video and campaign slogan.

However, unlike most other celebrities who spoke out against Trump, Springsteen stung the right-wing the most. The reason for this is primarily due to Springsteen’s audience demographics.

Springsteen remains incredibly popular, particularly amongst older people on both sides of the political spectrum. Trump supporters who are oblivious to his anti-Trump sentiment have even played his songs at Trump rallies (including Trump himself), expecting to act as a patriotic anthem even though the song was intended to be against right-wing ideologies. Given Springsteen’s evergreen popularity with older people, specifically the right-wing demographic, Trump supporters struggle to reconcile their enjoyment of his music with his political stances.

There are now three types of right-wing Bruce Springsteen fans:

– The one’s who are not aware of Springsteen’s support of left-wing ideology
– The one’s who are just finding out about Springsteen’s ideology and becoming hateful towards the musician
– The smarter one’s who are aware of Springsteen’s left-leaning politics but can separate their love of music from politics.

We should all try and be in the 3rd group.

The printer ink cartridge scam – here’s how it works

On the 15th March 2018, a now-infamous YouTube video was released. It didn’t change the world, but it made us all think again about why printers are so cheap. Is class reductionism a problem in society

What is class reductionism and is it a problem?

Class reductionism is the theory that class inequality is a more critical concern than other ‘secondary’ inequalities such as race, gender, sex etc. Class reductionists believe that solving class inequality will help solve most if not all other forms of inequality. In essence, they see all forms of inequality through the lens of class inequality.
